HALVER E. LUNDY
Halver E. Lundy was born amid the sturdy mountains of western Norway, December 21, 1852, the exact place being Olen. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Elias Lundy, were a God-fearing people who, with the aid of like-minded teachers, gave a thorough training in the principles of the Christian religion. Under their tutorship he developed a deeply consecrated Christian character which throughout his life marked him as a man of deep spiritual consciousness, sterling integrity, thrift and industry. Faithful, loving and kind in all his intercourse, he was truly a friend among friends.
At the age of twenty-three he left the homeland and set out to make a career for himself in the new world. Coming to Sheldahl, he made his home with an uncle, Ole Halverson for a period of four years. In 1879 he went to Illinois, where he continued to reside till the spring of 1900, when he returned and took up his residence on a farm which he had previously purchased north of Slater, which became the Lundy homestead.
In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Stenerson of Sheldahl. To this union were born eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. In 1915, having sold his farm, he moved to Slater, where he spent the remaining years of his life, enjoying the fruits of his labors.
His death which occurred on Wednesday morning, February 27th, came as a great shock to his many friends, few of whom knew of his illness. He reached an age of 76 years, 2 months and 6 days. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Lundy, and three sons and four daughter. They are Rev. Eli T. of Armstrong, Silas of Estherville, George of Waterloo, Mrs. J. E. Sheldahl of near Kelley, Mrs. A. K. Gaard of Cylinder, Mrs. Albert Tollefson of Cedar Falls and Mrs. J. O. Paulsrud of Vermillion, South Dakota.
