Funeral of Geo. Armstrong.

Special to The Journal.
AMES, June 12.--The funeral of George Ambrose Armstrong was conducted from his late home two miles east of town Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, by the Rev. Williams of the Christian church and interment was made in the Ames cemetery. Friends for miles around gathered at the bereaved home to pay a last tribute of respect to a man beloved by all who knew him, and a procession of carriages more than a mile in length followed him to his last resting place.

The floral offerings which were many and beautiful bore evidence of the love and respect of his relatives and friends. A quartette of the Christian church choir rendered appropriate music.

Mr. Armstrong was born December 15th, 1837, at Marathon, N. Y., and died at his home near Ames, Ia., Thursday, June 6th, 1907, being in his seventieth year. H moved with his parent to Jones county, Ia., in 2852 and was married to Julia C. Benidict, January 28, 1863. They moved to Ames in 1871 and have since made their home here.

Four children were born to them, two daughters and two sons, all of whom were present to cheer his last days, Effie, Mrs. J. W. Taylor of Carroll, Ia.; Anna, who lives at home, Emmet S. of Nevada and Leo, also at home. Theses with the wife are left to mourn his death.

Mr. Armstrong was perhaps more widely known throughout Story county than any other man having been employed as bridge builder for the county for the past thirteen years.

To those who enjoyed an intimate acquaintance with him he was known as a man of few faults, tender hearted and kind. He never spoke unkindly of anyone and saw only the good in mankind. In his work he was conscientious and in all business transactions his honesty and integrity was always manifest. He will be greatly missed in this vicinity, and the entire county mourns with the family at his death.
