Former Resident Dies at Home In Des Moines Aug. 15
A former Story Countian, Alvin E. Mattingly, died at the age of 61 at his home in Des Moines, 1431 Nineteenth St., Tuesday, Aug 15, of a heart attack.
Born June 7, 1906 in Story County, he attended the Ames schools and lived around Ames until 12 years ago when he moved to Des Moines. While in Ames he worked at the Iowa Highway Commission and was a custodian at the Ames public schools. At the time of his death he was employed as custodian at the Broadlawn Hospital in Des Moines.
A veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dwayne Tjelmeland of Roland, and one grandson; Douglas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Maude Mattingly and on brother, James.
Funeral services were held today, Monday, at 1:30 p.m. in the Adams Funeral Home in Ames with Rev. Everett Nelson of the Salem Lutheran Church, Roland, officiating.
Burial was in the Ames Municipal Cemetery where there were military rites given by the Ames Post, American Legion #37.
