OBITUARIES

Fred M. Kahler
Jan. 17, 1909, to April 3, 1997

Fred M. Kahler, 88, of Maxwell, died of congestive heart failure at his residence on Thursday, April 3.

He was born Jan. 17, 1909, to Fred and Elizabeth (Schalow) Kahler in Oxford, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Cavalry from 1927 to 1929. On Nov. 9, 1929, he married Mabel Banks in Des Moines. He moved to Maxwell in 1929 from Des Moines, and he owned and operated Home Oil Company. He also worked as a hired hand, a carpenter and at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny. He retired in 1968 and drove school bus in Nevada after his retirement.

He was a member of the Maxwell Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed traveling, wintering in Arizona, playing pool and playing Bingo.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel, of Maxwell; tso sons, Richard Kahler of Maxwell, and Paul Kahler of Pleasant Hill; two daughters, Pat Coles, of Maxwell, and Marge Kilker, of Baxter; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and one son, Robert.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, at the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell with Pastor Tom Lee, of the Maxwell Christian Church, officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery in Iowa Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maxwell First Responders.
