Funeral Services for Mrs. Swandahl; Popular Huxleyan

Huxley, April 28--Funeral services for Mrs. O. S. Swandahl, who passed away very suddenly at her home southeast of Huxley on Monday afternoon, April 23. Brief services were held from the home at one o'clock and from the Fjeldberg Lutheran church at 1:30 o'clock. The church was mor than filled to capacity with friends and relatives who came to pay their last respects to the deceased.The service opened with scripture reading from Psalm 90, by Dr. J. N. Anderson, who had charge of the service. A vocal solo "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" was sung by Miss Bernice Lomen; Dr. Anderson preached on the text from II Kings 20; part of the 1st verse "Thus saith the Lord, set thine house in order; for thou shalt die and not live." The song, "It is Well With My Soul" was sung by the choir. Rev. Peder Buland spoke on the 15th verse of Psalm 50, "And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me."
The flowers which were numerous and beautiful were cared for and arranged by Mrs. P. T. Brown and Mrs. A. O. Wenos. Sums of money were donated to the missions by a number of organizations and relatives and friends in memory of the deceased.
Among them were the Sunday school teachers, the pupils of her Sunday school class, the Palestine Ladies Aid, the Fjeldberg Ladies Aid, Mr. and Mrs. Arron Holm and Mr. and Mrs. Ephrym Holm, a group of other near relatives, and her neighbors, who also gave flowers.
The pallbearers were Lismore Maland, Paul Maland, Arthur Ryerson, Gerald Holland, Yalmer Solyst, Luther John, all nephews of the deceased.
Burial was made in the Palestine cemetery.
Genah Holm-Swandahl was born in Cavalier county, North Dakota on May 7, 1884, of parents, Ole and Hansine Holm. In 1891 she moved with her parents to Wright county, Iowa.
She attended Ellsworth college at Iowa Falls and taught school in Wright county.
On November 26, 1906, she was united in marriage to Oliver Swandahl and moved to Story county, where she resided until her death, of a farm two and half miles southeast of Huxley.
To this union three children were born, namely (Naomi) Mrs. O. S. Stegman of Marshalltown; Ruth and Stanley at home.
Besides her husband and children she is also survived by seven sister, Miss Anna Holm, (Caroline) Mrs. H. H. Holm, (Emma) Mrs. George Johnson, (Lydia) Mrs. Helmer Hanson, of Belmond, (Hilda) Mrs. Elias Maland of Kanawha, (Minnie) Mrs. John Solyst of Forest City, (Ida) Mrs. Henry Holland of Thompson, one brother, Edwin Holm of Chester. Also an uncle, Rev. H. C. Holm of Kanawha and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Swandahl died instantly on Monday afternoon about four o'clock, from a burst blood vein in her head. She had not been in the best of health the past few years but had seemed quite well of late.
She was an active church worker. She was a member of the Ladies Aid of which she served as secretary for a couple of years. She was a teacher in Sunday school and a member of the Sunday school training class.
She reached an age of 51 years, 11 months and 13 days.
