Mrs. Eva Murrow Funeral Services Held In Moville
Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Murrow were held at the Mitchellville Methodist church on Sunday, August 5, 1962 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. J. E. McClellan officiated at the services and was assisted by Rev. David Barker.
The many lovely floral pieces were cared for by Mrs. Helen Vincent, Mrs. Helen Myers and Mrs. Georgena Dobson.
Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Rose Bowers and two songs, The Old Rugged Cross and Inside the Eastern Gate were sung by Mrs. Martha Goddard.
Casket bearers were Herman Schweiker, Merlin Alexander, Harry Murrow, Elmer Murrow, James Seiberling and Clayton Newman.
Burial was in the Mitchellville Cemetery beside her husband.
OBITUARY
Eva Catherine Alexander was born to James Allen and Charlotte Alexander at Des Moines, Iowa, on August 25, 1874. On February 24, 1901, she was united in marriage to Albert A. Murrow.
Their home was established on a farm near Mitchellville, Iowa.
Later they lived three years at Grand Forks, North Dakota, and two years at Canton, Illinois, returning to Mitchellville where they lived and farmed until 1944 when they retired and moved to Des Moines.
To this union were born one son, Russell James, of Des Moines; and four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Carolyn) Hirsch of Indianola; Mrs. Howard (Agnes) Schnittjer of Mt. Vernon, Ia.; Mrs. Rollin (Golden) Coughenour of Maxwell, Iowa; and Hallie Esther, who died at the age of two years.
Mrs. Murrow is survived by her son; three daughters; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Frank Alexander; four sisters, Mrs. Liie Barkley, Mrs. Hallie Johnson, Mrs. Agnes Schweiker, all of Des Moines and Mrs. Retta Arthur of Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
Her husband preceded her in death on February 10, 1954. Since that time Mrs. Murrow has made her home with Mrs. Rollin Coughenour at Maxwell. Two grandchildren, Eva Catherine Schnittjer and Sue Joyann Coughenour, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Russell Murrow (Carrie); a son-in-law, Howard Schnittjer, two brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Murrow was a charter member of the Mitchellville Women's Society of Christian service and a long time member of the Mitchellville Methodist Church.
Interests to which Mrs. Murrow devoted much time and received great pleasure and satisfaction were mission work and her flower gardens on the farm.
Mrs. Murrow had been in failing health for some time and entered the Story County Hospital on March 26, 1962, and did on August 2, 1962 at the age of 87 years, 11 months.
