FORMER SENATOR FROM BOONE-STORY CALLED BY DEATH

SUDDEN PASSING OF CHARLES OLSON WAS GREAT SHOCK TO FRIENDS.

Boone, July 13.--The funeral services for the late Charles Olson, former senator from the Boone-Story district, who died following an operation in a Des Moines hospital Saturday morning, was held from the home just west of Beaver, this county, this afternoon at 3:30.

The body lay in state up to the hour for the services and friends who desired called to pay their tribute of respect. The services were held on the sloping east lawn of the home, conducted by the Rev. Gardiner of Malcomb, formerly pastor of the Methodist church at Beaver. Rev. Gardiner was a close personal friend of the Olson family. The body was buried in the Beaver cemetery.

At the services a large number of men and women prominent in Iowa public life were in attendance. A delegation of the members of the 39th and 40th general assemblies was present to pay a last tribute to their colleague.

Death was caused by peritonitis which followed an operation for ulcer and gall stones.

Mr. Olson was conscious to the end. Around his death bed were gathered his wife, his two sons, Theodore and Douglas, and other immediate relatives.

Mr. Olson was born in Sweden May 9, 1870. At the age of two years his father died, and his mother emigrated to the United States, settling near Boone. Mr. Olson received his early education in the public schools, and later attended Drake University. He was engaged in farming practically all his life and in recent years was vice-president of the Beaver Savings bank.

Mr. Olson served in the state senate during the 39th, 40th and 40th extra sessions of the legislature.
