J. A. Bryant was born Oct. 11, 1852, in Lewis county, Kentucky and departed this life at his home in St. Anthony, October 11, 1915, and was 63 years old at death. He came to Iowa in 1856 with his parents who settled on a farm near St. Anthony. October 12, 1871 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Alice Short, and moved to a farm one mile west of St. Anthony where he lived until February 1901 when he moved to St. Anthony and engaged in the insurance and real estate business and notary work. Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife and one daughter Mrs. C. L. Keoppel of St. Anthony and two grand children, Mrs. Hazel Keoppel-McConnell of Altoona, Iowa and Clyde Keoppel of St. Anthony. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. N. A. Julian of Marshalltown. His father, mother, one brother and four sisters have preceded him to the Great Beyond.

He became a member of the Christian church of Clemons when a young man and was a faithful member. In 1890 he transferred his membership to the St. Anthony Methodist Protestant Church of which he remained a most faithful member; always having the interest of the church at heart and always willing to bear he part. He was also a member of the Mason Pacific lodge No. 469 of Zearing and the Odd Fellows lodge No. 637 of St. Anthony. He was a prominent citizen, always having the welfare of others at heart, and ever willing to lend a helping hand, and will be greatly missed in the church and community where he resided. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the M. P. church, Rev. A. Q. Gharrett officiating.
