Helen Isabelle Thornton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter N. Thornton was born near Bloomington, Grant County, Wisconsin, June 9, 1859. When about fourteen years of age she gave her heart to Christ, and became a member of the Baptist Church of Bloomington, Wis. October 9, 1883 she was united in marriage to Delbert E. Lhommedieu and came immediately to Colo which has been their home town ever since. One daughter, Beula R. was born to them. Several years ago Mrs. Lhommedieu with her husband and daughter joined the United Evangelical Church at Colo and she remained a faithful member and lived a consistent Christian life to the last. She was also an esteemed member of the organizations of the U. E. Church, and at one time was a faithful secretary of the ladies aid society for about nine years.
About three years ago her health became impaired, and about two and one-half years ago was taken to Rochester, Minn., where she underwent a very serious operation which it was hoped would effect a cure but as time passed she suffered more and grew weaker until the end of this mortal life which came Wednesday evening October 20, 1915. Everything that loving hearts and skilled hands could devise or perform was done to relieve and cheer her. She was a faithful, loving wife, a devoted mother, a kind neighbor, and a true friend. She leaves to mourn her loss: her husband and daughter, one sister, Mrs. Eliza Ulum of near Maxwell; three brothers, Robert H. Thornton of Lytton, Iowa; William P. Thornton of Colo, and Frank N. Thornton of Nevada, besides numerous other relatives an a host of friends. Her mother passed from this life less than two months ago. The sorrowing ones have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at the U. E. church conducted by her pastor Rev. W. C. McKinley who spoke words of comfort from the text found in Psalms 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Rev. J. M. Banford of Zearing and Rev. G. H. Johnson assisted. Interment was made in the Colo Cemetery.
