From Nevada Representative October 19, 1917 (page 6)

Elsie May Knudtson was born at Leland, Ill., Nov. 28, 1866 and died at her home at McCallsburg Oct. 8, 1917. She was the sixth child of Mr. and Nrs. Hover Knudtson.* At the tender age of 5 years, God saw best to take her mother home, so she never knew what it was to have the tender love and car of a mother. She had a good father and he with the aid of the older children kept the home and children together. At the age of 14 years she was baptized an joined the Methodist church. On December 26, 1889 she was married to Edward Thompson also of Leland, Ill. they lived in Illinois one year and in the spring of 1891 moved to Iowa and settled on the place known as the old Boston place, south of McCallsburg. To their marriage were born eight children, seven living, one having preceded the mother. She leaves to mourn her loss seven children and one grandson, four sisters, two brothers and a host of relatives and many dear friends. The children are Emery and Homer of Bricelyn, Minn., Susie, Amos, Hazel, Earnest and Theodore all living at home, her two brothers Charlie and Dan Knudtson and one sister Mrs. A. A. Marcus live at Ellsworth, Mrs. Hannah Larson at Leland, Ill., Mrs. T. M. Peterson at Sandwich, Ill. and Mrs. T. O. Thompson at Nevada, who with their husbands and wives were present at the funeral as was also Mrs. T. T. Thompson, Joseph Thompson and Mrs. Nash of Callander, Ia., mother-in-law and brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Thompson.

Mrs. Thompson will be sadly missed by all who knew her. All her life she had lived a true Christian life. She was good and kind always, thinking of the comfort of others. During her long illness, she was always patient never complaining and was very tenderly cared for by the two daughters. No one knows what it is to lose a mother until they have lost their own and it is so very hard to bear, but there is such a comfort in knowing that she lived and died a christian, and we know she has gone to a better, brighter home where there is no sickness or sorrow and it is a great comfort when we think of all her loving deeds of kindness to us. God let the children keep her for a while as long as he saw best and her sweet memory will stay with them always and if we try to live pure Christian lives as she did then we can have the blessed hope of meeting her above to part never more.

The services were held at the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon by Rev. Sherk of this place, after which interment was made in the Ellsworth cemetery. The floral pieces were many and most beautiful. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Elsie May Knudson was the daughter of Haaver Knudsen and Anne Danielson/Vallem.
