Obituary of Margaret Shaw
Margaret youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber F. Shaw, was struck by an auto and instantly killed Saturday, Sept. 22, 1917. She was crossing the street near their home in New Hampton. The Shaw family moved from Colo to New Hampton last June, after living in Colo many years.
On Nov. 27, 1914 the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber Shaw were made to rejoice because an angel had visited their home and left a little bundle of love to cheer and brighten their home. Little Margaret was like a sunbeam, always spreading joy, light and life. She was of a kind and gentle disposition which called forth the love of all who met her. But how transitory are all of our temporal blessings. In the midst of life we are in death. And now suddenly and without warning our joys are turned to sorrow. This was demonstrated on Sept. 22 when without prognostication, but like a clap of thunder out of a clear sky the life of little Margaret was snatched from the embrace of loved ones, and from off this field of action Saturday evening she left Mamma as well as ever, and started to go to papa, a half a block from home. She was struck by an auto and almost instantly killed.
At the time of this sac accident little Margaret was 2 years, 9 months and 25 days old. She leaves to mourn her untimely death, a heartbroken mother, a sorrowing father, 3 weeping sisters, and 2 sobbing brothers together with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Anna Niland Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. G. H. Johnson of Madrid. He spoke words of comfort from Genesis 9.14. Four little girls were pall bearers, Helen Cook, Mary Byers, Helen Glann and Lois Stevenson. The little form was tenderly laid to rest beside her little mother Kenneth in the Colo cemetery. She leaves to mourn their loss her father, mother, three sisters and three brothers of New Hampton (all of whom attended the funeral), grandfather and grandmother Houser of Lyons, Colorado, besides many other relatives and friends. Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. J. W. Shaw and Mrs. E. A. Binder of Baraboo, Wis., Mrs. Eliza Perry and Roy Perry and son Kenneth of Winnebago, Minn., Mrs. U. G. Gilger of Lyons, Colorado, and Jesse and Harold Shaw of New Hampson. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones by the entire community.
