Fred L. Schoel Dies Monday at Waterloo

Fred L. Schoel, 50, former resident of Nevada, died in a Waterloo hospital New Year's morning, after a ten days' illness due to a cerebral hemorrhage, having been a patient at the hospital since December 22.

Mr. Schoel, a graduate from the Civil Engineering department at Iowa State college, worked for a time in Story county as assistant under John M. Wells, then county engineer. It was during that time that he was married to Miss Sarah Proctor.

Funeral services will be held at Waterloo on Thursday at 1:30 p. m. and burial will be at Waterloo, where the family home had been since 1920.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Proctor-Schoel, a daughter Betty, now Mrs. Everett Prosser of Waterloo, and two sons, Frederick and George at home. He also leaves two brothers, Ray Schoel of Waterloo and Leon Schoel of Marshalltown.

Born at Gladbrook, Iowa,* he attended the schools there and later attended and graduated from Iowa State college at Ames.

As stat he came from college to Nevada where he worked as assistant under John M. Wells, county engineer. While here he was married to Sarah Proctor*, daughter of Mrs. Celeste Proctor, and they continued their home here for a time, moving from here to Worthington, Minn., and from there to Waterloo. There Mr. Schoel engaged in the manufacturing business as head of the Gem Doughnut Machine company. He continued in this business successfully for twenty years and had been active until finally stricken with illness.

During those years with his family he had visited with the family of Mrs. Schoel's in Nevada at frequent intervals, was well known and very highly respected here.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: According to both his marriage record and his death record, Frederick Louis Schoel was born at Frederick, Brown County, South Dakota. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Proctor on 5 August 1912 at Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
