Funeral Services for Mrs. Anderson at Roland Wednesday
Special to the Journal:
Roland, Jan. 1--Funeral services for Mrs. M. L. Anderson 72, former resident of this community, who died Sunday evening, December 31, at Sunset Home, Story City, will be held Wednesday, with prayer at the Sunset Home Chapel at 1:00 o'clock and the funeral at Salem church, Roland, at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. Burial will be made in the Roland cemetery.Death came as a result of a stroke of apoplexy suffered on Wednesday. She had been in Roland on Christmas, attended the services at Salem church, and had dinner at the home of her son, Edward and family.
Her maiden name was Bertha Fuglesten, and she was born at Jelfa, Norway, March 16, 1867. She was united in marriage to Martin Anderson July 4, 1889 at Bergen, Norway, and they came to America two years later. They first located at Morris, Ill., where they remained until 1914, when they came to Iowa and settled on a farm south of Roland, where they remained until 1921. They then moved into Roland, where her husband died in 1927. It was about six years ago that she went to Story City and a year ago entered the Sunset Old Peoples Home.
She leaves two sons, Edward Anderson of Roland and S. B. Anderson of Des Moines, and a brother in Hellinger, N. D.
