Mark Bivens, High School Boy, Died Early Today
Mark Bivens, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Bivens of Milford township, died at 3:00 a. m.. today at Iowa sanitarium where he had been taken Tuesday for an operation for appendicitis. Taken ill on Sunday, he was operated upon Tuesday afternoon, complication developed Thursday and he became much worse last evening about 7 o'clock.
The announcement of the death of this popular 17-year-old high school boy, who had just finished his junior year in Nevada high school after taking two years of high school work in North Grant, came as a distinct shock to the community. The home is of course saddened and there is a pall of gloom over the entire community.
Born in Nevada April 3, 1922, first son of Clarence E. and Hazel Markland Bivens, he lived his entire life in or near Nevada. For the past few years the family had lived on a farm near North Grant school and there he attended school and was an active member of the Grant township Onward Boys' 4-H club.
The past year the family, consisting of his parents and brother Gordon, have lived on a farm west of Milford school and Mark had attended school in Nevada and was a member of the junior class.
Mark was a brilliant student, a popular young athlete an was admired by a wide circle of friends, as well as by the members of his family.
He leaves his parents, the brother Gordon, his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Markland and aunt Mrs. Irene Dobson as well as other more distant relatives in Nevada.
Funeral services will be held at the Bishop funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. George Lawton of West Des Moines in charge. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
