Mrs. Hastie, Former Story County Woman Died at Albia

Nevada relatives in Albia on Thursday attending the funeral of the late Mrs. W. J. Hastie were Mrs. Cora McConnell, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle McConnell, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McConnell, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McConnell and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ogden.

Aletha Frances Hastie, a sister of Mrs. Cora McConnell of this city, was born 76 years ago near Galesburg, Ill., and departed this earthly life January 16, 1939 at 7:00 p.m.

She and her husband celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary on December 29th, 1938. The next day Mrs. Hastie became ill, and from the first it seemed that all the loving care and the medical skill use were of no avail, and she gradually slipped into the Great Beyond. For the last several years her health has been poor, many times alarmingly so. But in between her intermittent sicknesses, she has gone about her busy, happy life as a minister's wife, keeping up old friendships, and making new contacts. A loving mother, a tender helpful wife, a charming hostess, her many talents and versatile personality have endeared her to hundreds whose lives she had touched in three nations where she and her husband have had work as missionaries.

She leaves to mourn her passing, four children, Mrs. Borea Clark of West Des Moines, E. D. Hastie of Racine, Wis., W. J. Hastie of Kenosha, Wis. and Mary who is at home, and has cared tenderly for her mother all through the years of ill health, six grandchildren, her sister, Mrs. Cora McConnell, and a brother, Frank Andrus in California, a large number of nieces and nephews who loved her almost as a mother, and countless friends.
