Funeral Service for Addison Pearson Sunday Afternoon

Maxwell, Jan. 21--Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Episcopal church her Sunday afternoon for Addison F. Pearson, 81, long time resident of this community, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard Couch late Thursday.

Addison Fawcett Pearson was the son of Mile and Minerva Pearson, pioneers of this community. His parents came from Ohio in 1856 and settled in Salem, Lee county for about a year where Addison was born the next year, on July 7th, 1857. Shortly afterward they moved to near old Peoria where the father had obtained land from the government and where the family resided until 1876, when thy move to Des Moines. Addison was then a young man and worked in the city. He married Florence Case of Waverly, Iowa, and returned to this community and settled on a farm east of Maxwell to make their future home. Here they lived and reared their children, about thirty four years and later moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas where they have resided twenty years. Mr. Pearson came back to Iowa every summer to look after his farm interests near Maxwell so he never seemed a non-resident.

The children are Harley (Merle) Mrs. H. C. Couch and Ned of Maxwell; Frank and Helen of Des Moines; (Carol) Mrs. J. C. Cloud of Rolla, Missouri and Mary Ellen (adopted) of Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Pearson arrived in Maxwell on Thursday before Christmas to spend the holidays with their children and to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary which was Jan. 1, 1939. Mr. Pearson became ill the day after Christmas but was up and around a good share of the time until about three weeks ago when he was confined to his bed. His death came at about ten o'clock Thursday evening Jan. 19. He was a man of fine character and of sterling worth to his family and the community. He was a member of the local M. E. church and a charter member of Herald Lodge No. 455, A. F. & A. M.

He leaves besides his widow and children, seven grand children and one great grand child and one sister, Mrs. Etta Carpenter.
