Luene Elizabeth Caroline Buchan, 83, of Story City, died Wednesday, July 13, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City with visitation prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Luene Elizabeth Caroline Buchan was born Jan. 13, 1922, to Henry and Elizabeth (Meyer) Wittkop in Fredricksburg. She married Ray Buchan April 29, 1949. During World War II, she worked for the airlines and was a welder for McDonnell Douglas. She lived in Waterloo until 1958, in Story City until 1976, then moved back to Waterloo. She moved back to Story City in 1996. She was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by one son, Doug Buchan of Earlham; four daughters, Sue (Ken) Frette of Story City, Peg (Danny) Adkisson of Knoxville; Becky (Joel) Ahrens of Ames, and Linda Buchan of Ames; one sister, LaVera Sherman of Jesup; seven grandchildren, Jody (Brian) Strauss of Cedar Rapids, Jen (Darrell) Smith of Story City, Cameo (Mark) Peralta of Gail, Ariz., Christina Adkisson of Knoxville, Kate Adkisson of Knoxville, Dustin Frette of Ankeny and Kyle Frette of Story City; and seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua and Emily Strauss, Wil and Talan Peralta, and Vanessa and Paighton Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Amy Adkisson; three sisters, Lula Clausen, Thelma Deetz and Hadwig Wittkop; and one brother, Edward Wittkop.
