Claribel E. Larson, 95, of Ames, died July 7, 2005 at Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, July 17 at 2 p.m., at Northcrest Retirement Community. Burial will take place at Palestine Cemetery in Huxley. Memorials may be given to Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames.
Larson was born Sept. 13, 1909 in Spragueville to Harry S. and Hattie C. (Schroeder) Paup. She married Joseph T. Larson Jan. 19, 1941 in Preston.
She lived in Lost Nation, Lake City, Cambridge and Madera Calif., before moving to Ames in 1976.
Larson was a graduated from Preston High School in 1927, and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and Drake Community. She taught in Cambridge, was a housemother at Westmar College for three years, and was a housemother at Iowa State University from 1965-1973. She retired in 1976. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and Golden Agers.
Survivors include a son, Bruce E. Larson and wife Kathy Fernbach of Minnepolis, Minn.; a daughter, Karen E. Stansbery and husband Bill Stansbery of Ames; two sisters, Opal Mohr of Buffalo N.Y., and LaVerne Tharp of Ottumwa; four grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 2, 1956; one brother and an infant sister.
Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
