Funeral Services for John Hatteberg
Special to the Journal.
Slater, May 2--Funeral services for John Hatteberg, 67, were held at the Bethlehem church, Thursday afternoon. The services were in charge of Rev. E. E. Rorem. The duets, "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Miss Josie Ryg and Mrs. M. S. Heggen. A mixed quartette composed of A. Maland, A. A. Chader, Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Miss Josie Ryg sang, "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Many beautiful floral offerings covered the casket.The pall bearers were Jacob Lande, Lars Lein, Oliver and John Richardson, Clarence Ryg and A. L. Peterson.
Burial was made in the cemetery near Kelley.
John Hatteberg was born in Norway, November 18th, 1864. His parents were Thor and Bertha Hatteberg. He came to America with his parents when he was 5 years old. They settled at Lisbon, Ill.
From Lisbon they moved to a farm near Kelley. In 1909 Mr. Hatteberg came to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Heggem, until a year ago when his health failed and he was taken to the state hospital for treatment. He is survived by one brother, Andrew of Denver, Colo., and two sisters, Mrs. Will Hoon of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Nellie Houston, Ocean Park, Calif., besides numerous relatives and friends.
