TRAGIC DEATH OF PIONEER OF INDIAN CREEK TOWNSHIP
Warren Maxwell Died From Injuries Received In Runaway
Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, April 8--Warren Maxwell, 75, pioneer of Indian Creek township is dead today as a result of an accident while he was assisting in the field on the farm of his son Cloyd Maxwell, west of town.Mr. Maxwell Sr., who has his home in Maxwell, had gone out to the farm to assist in seeding operations and was alone in the field driving a team of mules hitched to a lowdown seeder, when the tongue broke and as the frightened team started to run, dragged the driver a considerable distance.
A daughter=in-law Mrs. Boyd Maxwell noticed the loose team standing at a gateway of the field and caused an investigation which resulted in the finding of Mr. Maxwell. He was injured painfully but was conscious. He was taken to the Cloyd Maxwell home and physicians summoned both from Maxwell and Nevada.
An examination showed that internal injuries caused his death. These injuries had resulted from his being dragged along the ground.
The accident occurred at 1:30 in the afternoon and Mr. Maxwell died shortly after 3:00.
Warren Maxwell, who was one of the real pioneers of this part of the county, leaves besides his wife, two sons, Boyd and Cloyd, both farmers of near where the accident occurred; two grandsons, John Warren and Millard; two brothers and one sister.
The brothers are Dode Maxwell of Maxwell and Dick Maxwell of Kansas City, while the sister is Mrs. Fultz.
Mrs. Maxwell is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Robison Sr. of Nevada and is a sister of E. R. and C. A. Robison of west of Maxwell, George G. and Bert Robison of Nevada and Ed Robison of California, and one sister, Mrs. Fannie Proctor of Nevada.
He was a son of Thomas and Nancy Maxwell, born at Lafayette, Indiana, November 9, 1855, and came out to Iowa with his parents in an early day. The Tommy Maxwell family came out from Indiana with the Alex Robison family and both settled in Indian Creek township, where they raised their families and prospered.
Warren Maxwell was married to Emma Robison in 1886 and three sons were born to them. One died in infancy and the others Boyd and Cloyd live and farm in the same neighborhood.
The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00, at the Methodist church in Maxwell, after which interment will be in the Maxwell cemetery.
