Bryant Funeral At Colo Today
Special to the Journal.
Colo, Feb. 28--Funeral services for Fred E. Bryant, 36, World war veteran, who died in a hospital in Aurora, Colorado, February 25, were held today and the body was interred in the cemetery at Colo. There was a short prayer service at the home of his sister Mrs. Florence Dannenberger followed at 11:00 by the funeral services at the Evangelical church of Colo, where Mr. Bryant placed his membership several years ago.Fred E. Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Bryant, was born near Colo, Iowa, on July 7, 1894, and passed away at the Veteran's Hospital at Aurora, Colo., on February 25, 1931, at the age of 36 years, 7 months and 18 days after an illness of a few months.
He grew to manhood at Colo and spent practically his entire life here. In December 1917, he answered the country's call for volunteers and entered service at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. The following spring he was sent to a Naval camp in France where he was stationed for nine months. He was then transferred to a U. S. transport ship and made several trips bringing troops back home from France. In October, 1919, he received his honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy after almost twenty-two months of service.
On June 16, 1920, he was united in marriage with Miss Vivian Barkdoll and to this union was born one child, Janice Eleanor, who survives her father.
A few months ago Mr. Bryant became ill and on February 22, he was taken to the U. S. Veterans' hospital at Aurora, Colorado, where it was hoped he could regain his health but he failed to rally from the trip. He was a member of the Colo American Legion Post.
He leaves to mourn his death one daughter, one brother, Roy L. Bryant, of Marshalltown and four sisters, Mrs. Orpha Wengert and Mrs. Florence Dannenberger of Colo, Mrs. Eva Anderson of Marshalltown and Mrs. Mildred McCoy of Clinton besides many other relatives and friends.
