SEGAR NELSON DIED VERY SUDDENLY

RESPECTED PIONEER FARMER OF RICHLAND

Segar Nelson, 84, pioneer settler of north-east Richland, was found dead in his bed this morning in the home in which he lived alone, by members of the family of his son R. A. Nelson, who lived in a nearby house on the same farm.

Mr. Nelson had been in his usual health Tuesday and while he had been a sufferer from occasional heart attacks, his condition had not been considered at all serious and his death proved a distinct shock to members of the family and friends.

Mrs. Nelson had died January 17, 1930, since which Mr. Nelson had continued to occupy his own home on the old homestead although the family of his only son, R. A. Nelson, lived nearby.

Segar Nelson, a son of John and Marie Nelson, was a native of Denmark, where he was born December 21, 1846. He was one of seven children of the family, four of whom came to America and became residents of Iowa. They were Segar, John and Ole Nelson who settled in Richland township, Story county, and Hans Nelson of Marshall county.

Mr. Nelson came to America in 1873, locating first in Marshall county, where he lived until 1880 when he came to Story county and bought his farm in Section 1, Richland township, which he had lived upon continuously since.

Mr. Nelson was married to Miss Christina Rasmussen and to this union two children were born. Mary the daughter of the deceased, while Rasmus A., the son lives upon and operates the family homestead since the retirement of the father. Mrs. Nelson died, as stated before, January 17, 1930.

Mr. Nelson is a brother-in-law of C. F. Rasmussen, of 808 Lincoln avenue, Nevada.

He was a man of very fine character, was a successful farmer and was held in the highest esteem in the neighborhood where he had lived for over half a century.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon. There will be a prayer service at the home at 1:30, followed by the funeral proper at the Johnson Grove M. E. church at 2:00. Interment will be in the Johnson Grove cemetery by the side of the wife who was buried a year ago.
