Collins, Jan. 10--John J. Hattery, 75, pioneer and prominent citizen of the Collins neighborhood, died at his home two miles north of town, at 6:15 this morning, after an extended illness, during which time he had suffered from heart complications. While he had been failing for a year, his condition had been realized as critical during the past few weeks.

The funeral will probably be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 at the Methodist church in Collins, after which interment will be in the Collins cemetery. It is expected that Rev. John Adamson will preach the funeral sermon and interment will be in charge of the Masonic lodge.

Mr. Hattery was born February 1, 1856, at Linton, Indiana, where he grew to young manhood and was married in 1880 to Miss Margaret Brawan.

Mr. and Mrs. Hattery came out to Iowa in 1887 and located on the farm two miles north of Collins, where they have since lived rearing their family of ten children.

The children are Mrs. Eva Butler of Ames, Mrs. Rella Berry of Joyce, Miss Carrie Hattery at home, Mrs. Mattie Haas at Rhodes, Charles Hattery of near Collins, John R. Mr. Hattery had always taken an active part in public affairs, was prosperous and popular and his death will be felt in the community in which he had lived for nearly half a century.

He was a longtime member of the Masonic lodge and a charter member of the O. E. S. at Collins. He had been a member of the Methodist church for many years and took an active interest in that denomination, as he did in everything for the betterment of the community.
