Funeral Rites for J. N. Carr, Pioneer County Resident

In the recent passing of J. N. Carr, 94, Story county loses one of its oldest men, both in point of age and of years of residence in the county.

The funeral services held at the Seventhday Adventist church were largely attended, relative and friends being here from a long distance.

The service was conducted by Elder K. L. Gant.

The following account of the life of the aged man was read during the service.

James Nathan Carr was born December 31, 1841, near Zionsville, Boone county, Indiana. On October 30, 1859, he was united in marriage to Emily Josephine Parks. To this union seven children were born. Three sons died in infancy.

In the fall of 1864, he with his wife and one child moved to Story county, Iowa and settled on a farm near Nevada, where he remained until the time of his death, with the exception of one year in Nebraska.

On April 28 1885, his companion was called by death. She was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery to await the resurrection morning. On January 6, 1887, he was united in marriage to Mary Angeline Wiley [nee Jackson.]

In the winter of 1888, he with his wife accepted the faith of the Seventh=day Adventist people. He was elected clerk of the church in June 1889. In October, 1891, he was elected leader, and was ordained elder November, 1893, and was released in October, 1897. He was one of the first elders, if not the first in the Nevada church.

After the death of Mrs. Carr in 1921, he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor, who preceded him in death, April 3, 1928. Since that time he has made his home with a son, Jesse, with whom he was living until his death Oct. 12, 1935. He would have been 94 years old the 31st of this December had he lived.

Besides his son Jesse, of Nevada, he also leaves two sons, Charley Ralph of St. Francis, Kans. and John Thomas, of Bloomington, Ill. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, B. F. Carr, of Nevada; and many other relatives and friends.

All through the years Brother Carr was a faithful, dependable, sweet-spirited Christian and leader, ever true to his convictions of right, always ready to sacrifice for the cause he loved and always in attendance at the church services whenever it was possible. Those present at a prayer meeting last winter, where he was in attendance, will remember his earnest testimony, expressing strong faith, hope, and courage in the soon coming of the Redeemer, and a joy at the prospect of a home in the eternal Kingdom.

Cameron and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Bowers and family and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bowers all of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Homer See and Mr. and Mrs. Verne Holsinger of Maxwell; Mrs. Walter Bast of Omaha, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tardoff and daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Hearst, Mrs. Lillie Rattabaugh and children, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nieubauer, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Niebauer, John Parks, Mrs. Florence Watts and son Henry and daughter Mrs. Pringle all of Alden; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nieubauer of Zearing, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Taylor and Mrs. Ted Taylor, Collins, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. M.
