COLLINS ITEMS

George W. McQuiston, 77, of Colfax passed away Saturday, August 31, was buried in Evergreen cemetery at Collins Monday afternoon, Sept. 2. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry McQuiston and was born on a farm southeast of Collins in Jasper county, growing to manhood in this community. He was married to Lulu Evans of near Collins and to this union one son, Herbert was born. The wife passed away a number of years ago. He was again married to Mrs. Libby Mills [this should be Liddy Mills as she was born Lydia Mary Arabelle Streeter] of Colfax who with the son survive. He also leaves two brothers, Charles and C. P. McQuiston of Collins and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Holmes of Des Moines and Mrs. George Vasey of Collins as well as a number of nieces and nephews Funeral services were held from the Methodist church at Collins with his pastor in charge of the service. Many relatives and friends from Colfax and Des Moines accompanied the body to Collins.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Actually George Washington McQuiston married five known times: (1) Amanda Jane Kintz on 10 September 1889 in Jasper County, Iowa, (2) Lucy Ellen Heath nee Evans in 12 January 1897 in Collins Township, Story County, Iowa, (3) Martha Mayberry on 22 January 1917 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, (4) Susanna Sager nee Thomas on 9 September 1919 in Missouri, and (5) Lydia Mary Arabelle Mills nee Streeter on 30 September 1929 in Jasper County, Iowa.
