McQuiston Funeral Services Sunday

Special to the Journal.
Collins, Oct. 9--Funeral services for the later John McQuiston, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Daisy Chivers of Centuria, Wis., was held at the Methodist church in Collins, Sunday afternoon, with the pastor, Rev. Chas. Hohenshalt officiating. Music was furnished by a double quartet and were Mrs. G. C. Fish, Mrs. L. M. Hall, Mrs. Chas. Wade, Mrs. Wm. Gilley, J. R. Witmer, E. R. Cope, J. G. Gingles and E. S. Stuntz, who sang, "The City Foursquare," "No Dark Valley" and "Sweetly Resting," with Miss Charlotte Vasey at the piano. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Glen and Harley, and Wes Minear, John De Busk, Oran and Otto McQuiston. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins by the side of his wife.

John McQuiston son of Perry and Catherine McQuiston was born in La Grange county, Indiana on May 17, 1853, and passed away October 3, 1934, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Daisy Chivers at Centuria, Wis., at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 16 days.

When a small boy he came to Iowa with his parents and here was married to Emma Thurston, Feb. 6, 1875. She preceded him in death 25 years ago. One daughter was born to this union and she with four grandchildren are left to mourn his loss. The grandchildren are Roy and Guy Chivers, Mrs. Ulah Boatman and Mrs. George Hanson, all of Wisconsin. Other near relatives are brothers, Charles and C. P. McQuiston of Collin, George of Colfax and sisters, Mrs. George Vasey of Collins and Mrs. Dora Holmes of Des Moines.

Mr. McQuiston was a good husband and father, kind and devoted. He was a friend and neighbor full of hospitality and unselfishness. His life was quiet, true and sincere.
