Funeral Services For Former Cambridge Girl

Cambridge, July 7--Funeral services held at the U. B. church in Cambridge for Mrs. Herbert Shaffer of Coon Rapids, after which interment was in the local cemetery. Brief prayer service had been held at Coon Rapids.

Mrs. Shaffer, whose maiden name was Hazel Juanita Gravitt, was born here November 12, 1914 and died at the King's Daughters hospital at Perry, June 28, 1934, age 19 years, 7 months and 16 days.

She had not been well since August 1933 when she underwent an operation. On Sunday afternoon June 24, she underwent another operation which proved fatal. She passed away Thursday, slipping quietly into the great beyond after having made peace with Jesus.

On Sept. 10, 1929 she was united in marriage to Herbert D. Shaffer of Scranton. To them was born one child Hellen Frances. Those left to mourn their loss are the husband and little daughter; her mother Mrs. James Smith of Coon Rapids, her father J. B. Gravitt of St. Joe, Mo., two sisters Mrs. George Grandy of Zearing, Tressie Hall of Iowa Falls, two brothers James of Zearing and Lyle of Coon Rapids a half sister Maudie Smith of Coon Rapids, two half brothers Junior Smith of Coon Rapids and Gerald Gravitt of St. Joe, Mo., her step father James Smith of Coon Rapids, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. James Gravitt and grandmother Mrs. Betty Bates all of Ames, and host of close relatives and friends.

Short prayer service conducted by Rev. Arms of the M. E. church were held at the Coder funeral home Saturday morning in Coon Rapids, funeral services were held at 2 p. m. at the U. B. church in Cambridge with burial there. Six young men, Orie Moore, Claude Moore, Merl Moore, Edgar Moore, Arthur Nelson all of Ames and Freeman Warren of Herrold, all first cousins, acted as pall bearers.

A special solo "I'll Spend My Vacation in Heaven" was sung by Bernard Tigges of Coon Rapids accompanied on the piano by Roy Holliday of Coon Rapids.
