Funeral Services for Mrs. Richardson

Special to the Journal.
Huxley, July 7--Funeral services for Mrs. Gertie Richardson, who passed away at her home north of town, on Friday, were held on Tuesday afternoon, July 3, with Rev. W. B. Scarvie of Story City, in charge. He was assisted by Rev. E. R. Rorem of Slater. Her pastor, Dr. J. N Andersen, being unable to be there on account of illness. There was a brief service at the house at 1:15 and at the Fjeldberg church at 2 p. m. At the service at the church the son, "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name," was sung by the assembly, after which Rev. Scarvie spoke in the English language, using the 15th verse of Psalm 116 as his text, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saint." The song, "He Leadeth Me," was sung by the choir. Rev. E. R. Rorem spoke in the Norwegian language, from the 12th chapter of Hebrews. A vocal solo, "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se," was rendered by Mrs. L. S. Kloster, of Des Moines.

The funeral was a large one, and the many beautiful floral offerings from relatives and friends were a glowing tribute of the high esteem in which the deceased was held. There were also several "wreaths" in the form of donations to the Missions given by friends and church organizations. The pall bearers were Milford and Henry Thompson, Jeffery and Nels Richardson, Lester Ryan and Hartwick Swenson. Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery, south of Huxley.

Mrs. Richardson was born May 8, 1862, at Skaanevik Prestegjeld Bergen Stift, Norway. Her parents were Eliza and Ingeborg Rullestad. She sailed to America with her parents and arrived in the U. S. A. July 3, 1868. She was confirmed in the Fjeldberg Lutheran church. She was united in marriage in 1882 to henry L. Richardson. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Randall Thompson, Belle Richardson, and Gertrude Rebecca who died in infancy. Her husband passed away on February 28, 1889.

Besides her two daughters, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Ford of Coombs, B. C., Vancouver Island, and Mrs. Belle Erickson, of Newell, S. D. Two brothers and two sister have preceded her in death. She also leaves three grandsons, Randall, Jr., Henry, and Milford Thompson and five great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a devoted Christian, willing to help and serve others.

Mrs. Richardson passed away on Friday, June 29, 1934, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 21 days. Blessed be her memory.
