Former Nevada Man Died Wednesday Funeral on Friday

William Houghtaling, 70, died on Wednesday at the Story County Home, where he had been cared for since April, 1928, he having been an invalid for a number of years.

The body was taken to the home of his daughter Mrs. Clarence Guthrie at Woodward and after prayer services there on Friday, the funeral party went to Grimes where the funeral services were held and the body laid to rest in the family lot.

Mr. Houghtaling leaves his wife, two sons and four daughters. The sons are Arthur Houghtaling of Mason City and Frank Houghtaling of Minneapolis; while the daughters are Mrs. Clarence Guthrie of Woodward, Mrs. Mary Hill of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Robert Guthrie of Elizabeth, Colorado and Mrs. Helen Roberts of Iowa City.

While the family lived in Nevada for a number of years during which time the daughter Bertha, now Mrs. Guthrie of Elizabeth, Colo., was connected with the local schools as a grade teacher. Mr. Houghtaling was known to few people. For many years he had been afflicted with creeping paralysis and other complications and was never able to leave the home.

He was taken ill a few days before his death on July 4 and the relatives notified. The daughter at Woodward arrived and was with him at death and other relatives, including the wife arrived just after he had passed away.

A group of Nevada friends were at Grimes Friday and attended the funeral.
