Newspaper source unknown. JOSEPH TOMLINSON VETERAN SALESMAN, DIES AT HOME HERE - MAN WHO WORKED TWO SCORE YEARS IN ONE STORE SUCCUMBS AT SOUTH SIDE HOME AFTER LONG ILLNESS - Joseph E. Tomlinson, aged 78 years, one of the best known residents of the city, died yesterday afternoon at _:30 o'clock at the family home after an illness of five weeks duration. Mr. Tomlinson was in a very critical condition during the entire time he was ill and his death had been expected daily for about four weeks. For the past thirty-three years the decedent had been employed in the Godfrey grocery store and probably enjoyed as wide an acquaintance as any other loop business man. He was well liked by all who came in contact with him, and his courtesy and accommodating manner made him one of the favorite salesmen of the city. He was an honest, trustworthy and faithful employee and his passing leaves a vacancy that will be hard to fill. Mr. Tomlinson was born in Truxson, N. Y. in 1842. At the age of 29 he came to La Salle County and settled on a farm in Deer Park. After residing there for a short while he was united in marriage with Miss Eva Baldwin. For some years he followed the profession of a farmer but later retired and moved into Ottawa, where he has since lived. During his long residence here he has taken a very active part in the affairs of the First Congregational Church, and will be greatly missed in the working of that institution. Surviving he leaves his wife and one daughter, Miss Leslie. The funeral service will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home of the decedent, and the remains will be taken to Deer Park for burial."
