Eugene S. Mortvedt
April 17, 1932, to Dec. 25, 2003

Eugene "Gene" S. Mortvedt, 71, of Story City, died Thursday, Dec. 25, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

He was born April 17, 1932, in Story City, to Ansel and Arlene (Braland) Mortvedt. He married Helen Kay Turner June 22, 1956, in Boone. He worked as a farmer near Story City for 48 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force for two-and-a-half years stationed in Italy, Africa and Bermuda. He served on the Story County Farm Bureau and was a member of the Central Iowa Two-Cylinder Club. He loved his family, friend and restoring old tractors in his spare time.

Survivors include his wife, Kay, of Story City; two sons, Marty (and Sherri) Mortvedt of Nevada and Randy (and Connie) Mortvedt of Ames; four grandchildren; his mother, Arlene; and two sisters, Sandra Olson and Linda Hovick.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services were held on Monday, Dec. 29, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City, with the Rev. Thomas Reuss officiating. Burial will be in Story City at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames or Riverside Bible Camp in Story City. Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City handled arrangements.
