THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 23, 1916, page 1, column 1. "OBITUARY - Henry W. Meese was born in Summerset ** county, Pennsylvania, August 22, 1847, and died March 9, 1916, near Mingo, Iowa, being sixty-eight years, six months and sixteen days old at the time of his death. He moved with his parents, George and Mary Meese, to Jasper county, Iowa, in 1867. He was married to Josephine Lamb, January 28, 1880, near Peoria, Polk county. His wife preceded him in death February 25, 1910. To this union two children were born. George D. Meese, of Mingo, and Linnie B. Sammin, of Rockwell City. He leaves to survive him the above named children, five grandchildren, six sisters and a host of relatives and friends. The sisters were all present at the funeral except Mrs. James Eatwell, of Scotts Bluff, Neb. Those present were Mrs. Ida Gardner, of Clear Lake; Mrs. Lizzie Clark, of Dallas Center; Mrs. Huldah Eatwell, of Zearing; Mrs. Lon Rumbaugh and Mrs. Sue Whitmore, of Mingo. His daughter, Linnie could not attend the funeral on account of illness. The funeral was conducted at the home by Rev. Sutter, of the Brethren church, interment in the Graham cemetery. Thus closes the life of one of the old settlers of Polk county." **Editorial note: Spelling should be Somerset.
