THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 26, 1914, page 1, column 4. “OBITUARY – Amos K. Mendenhall was born in Henry county, Indiana, January 25, 1848, and died six miles north of highland Park, Des Moines, Iowa, March 17, 1914, aged sixty-six years, one month and twenty-two days. He, with his parents, came to Iowa in 1856 and has been a resident of this state ever since.. He was married to Anna M. Travis at Bangor, Iowa, June 17, 1869. To this union was born four children, all of whom survive their parents. Mrs. Medenhall died near Maxwell, December 15, 1903. February 15, 1908, deceased was married to Mrs. Jennie LaCross, of Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves his widow and four children, two brothers and one sister to mourn his departure. The children are August O., of Sheffield, Iowa; Mrs. Cora Sweeny, of Monroe, Iowa; Leroy A., of Highland Park, and Chalmers, of Polk, Iowa. The funeral service was conducted by the pastor of Oak Park Evangelical church at Des Moines, in the Mt. Zion church at Loring. Interment was made in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mr. Mendenhall was stricken with paralysis just a week before his death. He was conscious nearly to the last and passed away peacefully about one o’clock Tuesday morning, march 17th.”
