THE NEWTON JOURNAL, Newton, Iowa, Wednesday, August 12, 1908, page 4, column 7. “DEATH OF MRS. KENDIG – Mrs. Elizabeth Kendig, wife of Jacob Kendig, died at her home near Collins, July 24th at the age of sixty-eight years, 8 months and twenty-four days. Mrs. Kendig was a native of Pennsylvania, but twenty-two years ago moved to Jasper County and settled near Mingo. After living there a short time she and her husband removed to their farm home near Collins. Mrs. Kendig was a woman who was loved for her noble Christian life. She was a loving mother and a true wife. Besides her surviving husband she leave six children: D. F. Kendig, of Newton; Amos Kendig, Mrs. Anna Witmer and Samuel Kendig of Collins; Mrs. Fannie Rumbaugh of Mingo and Adam Kendig of Rock Lake, N. D. Funeral services were held at Ashland Church and internment was in the church cemetery.”
