MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, July 23, 1908, page 8: "OBITUARY Hanna Elizabeth Tomlinson was born in Harvard county, Maryland, May 23, 1856, and died at her home at Peoria City, Iowa, July 17, 1908, being at her death, fifty-two years, one month and twenty-four days old. In the same year of her birth her parents removed to Illinois at which place they lived until the fall of 1869, when they removed to Iowa and settled on the old homestead near Peoria City, where her mother and one brother still reside. She was of a family of eleven children, seven boys and four girls, all of whom survive her except one sister, who died in infancy, her father also having died some years ago. She was united in marriage to M. L. Hutson on the fourth day of June, 1876. To this union were born seven children, one boy and six girls, five of them living to be grown, the boy and one girl having died in infancy. All are alive and were attendance at the funeral, except Etta, wife of L. Kirkman, who preceded her mother not a year ago. Sister Hutson made a profession of religion in early girlhood and united with the M. P. church at Peoria City of which she remained a faithful member all her life. She never made much demonstration in the performance of public Christian duties, but proved her faith in her Savior** by training her children in the right paths of life as much as she could, and by serving her service such as she was able to render, regardless of her own comfort if her family only be happy. During her last sickness which was of long duration and of much suffering, she never complained, while loving hands were doing all that any one could for her comfort. While all was being done for her recovery by medical aid and friends, the ravages of disease were destroying her vitals in spite of their efforts, finally she had to succumb but the end was easy. Just before she passed away she called her family to her and embraced them, then closing her eyes she went to sleep in Jesus. She leaves to mourn her loss, a mother, Mrs. Ann Tomlinson, seven brothers, Samuel J., Albert E. and George, of Maxwell; Charles T., of Arthur; James A., of Ottumwa; Henry, of Bondurant, and William of Springfield, Ill. Also two sisters, Mrs. Rosie Backous, of Collins, and Mrs. Thressie Cook, of Des Moines, also a husband and four daughters all of Maxwell, and a host of relatives, who have the sympathies of the entire community. Mrs. Hutson was a good woman, a faithful companion and a devoted mother and none can fill her place. The Savior saw best to call her and she was ready to go at His command. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. F. Martin in the Peoria City church, Sunday, July 19th at 2 p. m. assisted by the Maxwell choir which rendered excellent service in singing appropriate hymns. There was a large concourse of friends in attendance. The remains were laid to rest in the Peoria City cemetery to await the awakening when the dead in Christ shall rise.
**editorial note Savior was the way the newspaper spelled it instead of Savior.
