THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, 1 Jan 1914, page 1. "OBITUARY- Martin Luther Hutson was born in Henry county, Indiana, February 25, 1852, and departed this life, December 23, 1913, being aged sixty-one years, nine months and twenty-eight days. He had been for a number of years a sufferer from tuberculosis, and two weeks prior to his death, he was taken to a private hospital in Des Moines, where everything that could be done was done to make him comfortable during his stay there; a special nurse was in charge. The city physician attended him, but all to no avail. Mr. Hutson emigrated with his parents to Iowa in 1855, locating in Peoria, Polk county, where he lived till the last days of his life, with the exception of about three months, the fore part of the year, just past, which he spent at Ridge Camp, Des Moines. On June 4, 1876, he was married to Hannah E. Tomlinson, and to this union seven children were born; his wife and five children have preceded him to the Great Beyond; two daughters, Mrs. D. S. Meyers and Mrs. B. M. Kirkman, and one sister, Mrs. John Gibson, of Farrar, are left to mourn their loss. He also leaves six grandchildren. The deceased was a man of good talent, kind hearted, and was indulgent and patient through all his affliction. The funeral services were held at the M. P. church in Peoria, conducted by Rev. C. J. Nutt, the pastor, assisted by Rev. E. D. Fiscel, pastor of the Brethren church. Dr. Nutt took for his text Psalms 39:4, and preached a forceful sermon, full of good thought and admonition to all who are out of Christ to get on the solid rock. The body was laid to rest in the beautiful Peoria cemetery by the side of his loved ones."
