THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, July 4, 1901, page 1. "Killed by Lightning. - When the storm came up Monday afternoon two young men from Nevada, Roy Crane and Gilbert Hanson were fishing at Green's Lake about seven miles north of here. Just as it began to sprinkle a bolt of lightning crashed down, knocking Crane senseless and instantly killing Hanson. When Crane came to he was lying close to the water's edge, soaking wet and thinks he must have lain so for some time. He was still dazed but saw his companion lying about fifteen feet away. Going to him he found that he was dead and gave the alarm. The death is a very sad one as Mr. Hanson leaves a wife and two small children. He was a fireman at the McHose tile factory."
