THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday Jul 16, 1918. "MRS. FRANK M. GAGLE - Cora Belle Whitney was born in Humboldt county, Iowa, March 27, 1872, and died in her home she loved so well in the early hours of July 5, 1918 - aged forty-six years, three months and eight days. Cora was married to Frank M. Gagle on September 30, 1888, they having grown up from childhood in adjoining neighborhoods in this county. Mr. and Mrs. Gagle began their married life nearly thirty years ago on the beautiful homestead, which has been their haven of toil and comfort and planning and where their three children were born. Their daughters - Mrs. Grace Viola Morgan and Leila Blanche Butler, being conveniently located with their husbands and little children on homesteads near by. Frank Theodore, the son of tender years, the idol of a devoted mother's heart, is disconsolate and motherless today. Mrs. Gagle was the third of a family of six children. Her sister, Mrs. Jennie Witmer, of Maxwell, Iowa, and three brothers: W. W., L. R., and E. H. Whitney survive her. The eldest brother, Clayton, died several years ago. Mrs. Gagle united with the Methodist Church at Mingo at the age of seventeen and was a charter member of the Poweshiek Township Woman's Club; was treasurer or Rose of Sharon Chapter, Eastern Star; also a member of the White Shrine and Rebekah orders. Such in small part is the record of a faithful, loving and devoted wife and mother - a closing page that speaks of one whose voice though forever stilled, yet its cheery tones will be remembered: whose helping hands and sympathetic nature will ever remain a sweet benediction and priceless legacy to the bereft husband, children and grandchildren. The funeral services were held on Monday at the house largely attended though the day was not such as to induce one from their homes. The steady rain of the night before had left the roads heavy and slippery, yet many auto and vehicle loads were in attendance, filling the rooms of the residence and the wide veranda. The sermon was delivered by Rev. E. G. Williams of the Presbyterian church, deceased's favorite pastor, and the Eastern Star, present in a body, gave the ritualistic ceremony. The casket was banked with choice flowers. Interment was made in McKeever cemetery. Those present from at a distance were: E. H. Whitney and family, of Canton, Illinois; A. W. Whitney and family, of near Maxwell; L. R. Whitney and family of Mitchellville; Mr. and Mrs. Harding Witmer of Maxwell; Burton Whitney, of Bondurant; Carl Whitney, of Burt; Roy Bell, of Maxwell; Clarence Whitney, of Maxwell; Mrs. Wm. Gagle, of Hobson, Montana. Friends: Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Harris of Redfield; Mr. and Mrs. Joel Weston, of Altoona. The pall bearers were Ed Meckley, E. L. Duncan, S. W. Failor, F. J. Garwood, N. E. Patterson, J. W. Kartchner. Music was furnished by W. C. Stouffer. Dr. S. E. Lyke, Mrs. Chas. Tripp and Mrs. George Robinson with Mrs. W. T. Davis at the organ. - COLFAX TRIBUNE
