Obituary Of Dr. Leon F. Richardson

Funeral services were held from the Collins Methodist church for Dr. Leon F. Richardson, who for 45 years had practiced medicine in Collins with the Rev. Robert P. Robinson officiating.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Loyd Holland and Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson, who sang "Abide With Me" and "City Foursquare", accompanied by Mrs. C. R. Stone.

The beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. Clarence Morrison.

Casket bearers were Loyd Holland, Clarence Morrison, Raymond Long, Kenneth Tomlinson, Ralph Vasey and Harvey Westcott.

Graveside services were at the Fairfax, Ia., cemetery.

Obituary

Leon F. Richardson was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Feb. 20, 1877 and died at his home in Collins, Iowa, Saturday, Dec. 18, 1954 at 10:00 p.m.

He was graduated from Washington High school Cedar Rapids, and from Rush Medical college, Chicago. He began the practice of medicine at Terrill, Iowa, in the fall of 1900, later moving to Estherville, Iowa, and coming to Collins in October, 1909.

He was married at Fairfax, Iowa, Sept. 24, 1902, to Gertrude M. Shank. To this union were born two sons, Ronald C. and Leon Franklin.

He was a member of the Collins Methodist church, and of Fervent Lodge No. 513, A.F.&A.M., Collins Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; Des Moines Consistory and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines.

He was a life member of of the American Medical association and of the Iowa Medical society, and had served as president of the Story County Medical society. Dr. Richardson had been health officer of the town of Collins for 43 years, and had also served as a member of the Collins school board and of the town council.

Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife, sons, Ronald C. of Huntington Park, Cal. and Leon F. of San Marino, Cal. six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many friends.
