Former Collins resident dies in California

Gertrude M. Shank Richardson, a former Collins, resident, died at the State Street Convelescent Hospital in South Gate, Calif., March 8 at the age of 92.

Mrs. Richardson, a native of Maryland, came to Iowa with her parents and settled in Fairfax. She graduated from Cedar Falls Normal College in 1896 and taught school in Fairfax.

She was married to Dr. Leon Richardson in 1902. She and her husband lived in Terril and Estherville, coming to Collins in October of 1909. She was a member of the Collins Methodist Church, and the Collins Chapter of the Eastern Star.

She continued to reside in Collins after he husband's death of 1954. In the fall of 1963 whe went with her niece in Cedar Rapids and then, in 1968, to her two sons in California. Her health failed in the spring of 1968.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronald C. of Huntington Park, Calif. and Leon Franklin of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren and 17 grandchildren.

She was cremated in California and will be interred in the Fairfax Cemetery when weather permits.
