DEATHS
JOHN A. CESSFORD
Funeral services for John A. Cessford, 85 of Ames, formerly of Nevada, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
Cessford was born on May 21, 1898 to James G. and Ella (Cosgriff) Cessford in Tipton. He was educated in the rural schools of the Tipton area and graduated from Tipton High School in 1917. He was a veteran of World War I, and later attended Iowa State University.
Cessford's career was agriculturally oriented. He farmed in the Tipton area until 1939. At that time he purchased the Tipton John Deere store, which he operated until 1943. He then purchased the Nevada John Deere store and moved to Nevada. He retired from active business in 1956 with the sale of the Nevada store to Ryerson Implement Co.
In 1956 he was married to Naomi Anderson Fries, and they made their home in Ames. She died in 1979.
He is survived by 18 nephews and nieces and four step children.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29 at the Stevens Memorial Chapel. Memorial gifts may be sent to Marie Cook, Mechanicsville, Ia. 52306.
