John Brierley Obituary
ZEARING -- John Edward Brierley was born June 14, 1871, and departed this life Dec. 12, 1951, at the age of 80 years, five months and 28 days.
John was born in Freedom Township near Earlville, Illinoi, son of Edward and Harriett Brierley, who with a brother and sister, preceded him in death.
He chose farming as his occupation and March 1, 1900, he and his mother and foster sister, Mrs. M. W. Shay located on the farm east of Zearing where he resided until Dec. 1, 1949, when he and his wife, the former Miss Alice Johnson [should be Johnston], to whom he was married June 8, 1920, moved to their present home in Zearing.
For over 50 years spent in this community, John was always on the side of right and justice. The willingness with which he took up the burdens of others and the cheerfulness with which he helped carry them on without a thought of self was an example of Christian living, rare and beautiful. He had an unusual ability to make friends and to keep them thru the years, to overlook of forgive their faults and failings. If to live quietly, honestly, cheerfully -- with purity of life and purpose -- with satisfaction in companionship and work -- be counted true success then this life just closed will rank very high.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, his sister, Mr. M. W. Shay of Minneapolis, three cousins and host of friends.
