FORMER STORY COUNTY MAN DEAD

G. L. THORNTON DIED AT HIS HOME IN MINNESOTA LAST WEEK

George L. Thornton, 65, former resident of this county, but for the past several years living in Minnesota, died at his home in Winnebago, Minn., April 3, 1928. Funeral services were held there the last of the week and body interred in the cemetery at that place. Mr. Thornton is well remembered in the east part of the county, as a man of most excellent character and of fine integrity.

George L. Thornon was born in Saratoga county, New York, March 3, 1863, and died in Winnebago, Minn., April 3, 1928 at the age of 65 years and 1 month.

He spent his boyhood in New York and Pennsylvania, but after the death of his father, when nineteen years of age, Mr. Thornton came went to State Center, where he lived for some time in the home of A. L. Stuntz, brother of the late Bishop Homer Stuntz.

Mr. Thornton and Amanda E. Binder were united in marriage on December 22, 1887. To this union eight children were born, all of whom, with the mother survive the father.

The children are: Mrs. A. C. Porter, Winnebago, Minn.; Mrs. L. A. Porter, Huntley, Minn.; Miss C. Belle Thornton, Methodist Deaconess in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Mrs. C. R. Swartz, Estherville, Ia.; Mrs. Daney E. Stark, Darfur, Minn.; Mr. Milo J. Thornton, Des Moines; Mr. Frank Thornton, Osakis, Minn.; and Mr. Carl Thornton, Mantorville, Minn.

Mr. Thornton is also survived by two daughters-in-law, four sons-in-law and fifteen grand children, beside one sister, Mrs. Laura Berry of Northville, N. Y., and other relatives.

By the death of Mr. Thornton, this large family circle, thirty in number, has been broken. They are in sorrow today because they have lost a kind and loving father, one who was faithful to his home and family an to his tasks in life. Mr. Thornton's occupation was that of a farmer, and as such he conscientiously, year after year sowed the seed and reaped the harvest in order that he might fulfill his part in the work of the world.

In his youth he united with the Methodist Episcopal church and throughout the years has remained a member of it. And now, with his labors ended, Mr. Thornton has entered into rest.
