Swanson Services Held April 17

Services for Samuel S. Swanson, 89, longtime Marshalltown resident who died Wednesday Apr. 14 in a hospital at Salisbury, Md., were held on Saturday, April 17, at the Pursel Funeral Home, at Marshalltown, with the Rev. B. O. Lokensgard officiating.

Later services were held on Saturday, April 17, at 3 p. m. at the Salem Lutheran church in Roland with Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. Burial was made in the Roland cemetery.

Obituary

Mr. Swanson was born Sept. 4, 1864 at Sandness, Norway, and came to the United States in 1880. He farmed near Roland, later lived in Wisconsin, then went to Marshalltown where he worked for the M. & St. L. railroad for 48 years. He retired in 1937.

He was married in 1894 to Sadie Olson, who died in 1942. In 1952 Mr. Swanson moved to Salisbury to live with his daughter, Mrs. Marian Severance.

Also surviving are three nieces and a nephew. Mr. Swanson was a member of the Elim Lutheran church and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
