Funeral Services Held Here Sunday for Mrs. Hannah Holder

Funeral services for Mrs. John Holder, 87, who died Friday morning at the Western Old People's home at Cedar Falls, were held at the Nevada Evangelical church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Theodore Yackel in charge. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the husband who died 14 years ago.

There were two songs, one "Home of the Soul" which was sung at the funeral of the mother of the deceased and "Abide With Me" by Mrs. Theofore Yackel and Floyd Alderman.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The casket bearers were Richard Anderson, Claude Moran, Carl Stratton, James McDaniels, Roy Jones and William F. Thompson.

The following life of the deceased was read by the minister:

Hannah C. Holder, daughter of Jacob and Sarah Ann Booher, was born February 26, 1854, at Boonesborough, in Boone county, and passed away at 12:45 Friday morning Nov. 7, 1941, at the Western Old People's home in Cedar Falls at the age of 87 years, eight months and nine days.

She moved with her parents to Story county in 1865, and with the exception of the seven years her family lived in Crookston, Minn., and two years in Cedar Falls, the succeeding 76 years were live in or near Nevada.

On April 16, 1875 she was married to John L. Holder at the farm home near Nevada and to this union 11 children were born.

Two of the children, Bessie and Jacob, died in infancy. Those reaching maturity were Mabel, Mrs. Frank Nelson deceased, A. F. Holder of Osakis, Minn., Melvona, Mrs. Wm. Farrington, deceased, S. V. Holder of Minneapolis, Minn., Charles Holder, deceased, Everett Holder of Duluth, Minn., Earl Holder of Nasua, Mont., Mrs. Rena Phillips and Carl Holder of Nevada.

The husband and father passed away in Nevada 14 years ago and since that time the deceased has made her home with her son and daughter in Nevada. Two years ago she entered the Western Old People's home in Cedar Falls and it was there she passed away Friday morning.

She was happy in her residence in the old people's home where she received as tender care as in her own home. She had been confined to her bed since last Christmas but bore her sufferings with the Christian fortitude which was exemplified throughout her long life.

She was a lifetime member of the Nevada Evangelical church and was faithful in attendance at its services. She was a member of its women's organizations and --- ready to five of her means and strength to promote the work of the church in all its activities.

In addition to her five sons and one daughter she is survived by 34 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and by her brother J. P. Booher of Nevada, who is the last surviving member of ----- -- --- and one sister.

She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces and by host of friends who as shown in her fine Christian character, ---- --- in which her home and her church were her major interests. In the passing of Mrs. Holder her family has lost loving mother and her community and her church have lost a faithful member and a trusted friend.

Among the relatives from out of the city who were here for the funeral services were Mrs. A. F. Holder, Ralph Holder, Mrs. Harry Chapman and Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Holder, all of Osakis, Minn., Mrs. D. L. Picha and son of New Prague, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. S. V. Holder and daughter, Mrs. Bernar Mehr of Minneapolis, Miss Shela Holder of Shakopee, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Booher and daughter Helen and husband of Prairie City, Howard Booher of Des Moines, Mrs. Guy Beember and two sons of Lakota, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Farrington of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Berton Booher and Mrs. and Mrs. Booher and the grandson Maurice Phillips, now in the air service and stationed at Lincoln, Neb.
