Funeral Services For Slater Man

Slater, Feb. 25--Funeral services for Erick Viland, 50, were held at the Bethlehem church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The services were in charge of his pastor Rev. E. R. Rorem, who spoke of the Sermon on Mount, taking as his text the 6th verse of the 5th chapter of Matthew: "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled." A large sheaf of roses covered the casket. Beautiful floral pieces were presented by relatives and friends and the business men. The choir sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Abide With Me." Walter Christopher sand a solo "En Gang Vi Skal Forsfaa." A Duet, "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson. The pall bearers were Jennings Gord, Arne Christopher, O. B. Anderson, L. S. Grunstad, Lester Halverson and John Lund. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery. Erick Viland was born in Norway, November 22nd, 1879. In 1882 he came to America with his parents and lived in the vicinity of Sheldahl for a number of years. After the death of his parents, he made his home at Slater. He was confirmed by Rev. H. C. Holm and was a member of the Bethlehem congregation and Sunday School. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Martha Wellman, of Boise, Idaho, and two brothers, Brit and Lewis Viland of Sheldahl, besides many relatives and friends. At the time of his death he was 50 years, 3 months and 28 days.
