Funeral Services for Brit Viland
Special to Journal.
Slater, April 15--Funeral services for Brit E. Viland were held Wednesday afternoon, 1:30 o'clock at the Riis Funeral home at 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem church.The services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem who was assisted by Rev. J. Leland of the Hauges church. Beautiful floral offerings covered the casket. A quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Peterson and Mrs. John Boda of Sheldahl and A. A. Chader of Slater sang "Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross" and "Face to Face."
A ladies quartette composed of Miss Gladys Estrem and Mesdames M. S. Heggen, Art Estrem and Raymond Ryen sang "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee." The pall bearers were Jake Muhlenthaler, John and Will Graeber, Willie Niemier and Charlie Soderstrum of Sheldahl and G. T. Eide of Slater.
Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Brit E. Viland was born in Norway in 1862 and died April 11, 1937, at the age of 75 years. He came to America with his parents and they made their home in Sheldahl. He was in the employment of the Chicago & Northwestern railway company for 52 years.
About two years ago he moved to Slater to make his home with his niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Arne Christopher.
Mr. Viland was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Martha Wellman of Boise, Idaho, and one brother Lars of Slater and eight nieces and nephews, besides other relatives.
