Collins, Aug. 5--Funeral services for the late C. Vern Evans who passed away at the county home after an illness of several months, were held Monday in the United Brethren church at Collins, with the Rev. Paul Varce, local pastor, in charge.

Mrs. Myer Brecke and Mrs. Marion Burk with Mrs. Fred Mead at the piano, sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Beyond the Sunset."

The flowers were arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. Mondell Rice and Mrs. Walker Smith.

Interment was in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery. John Dodd, Fred Eggerter, B. L. Keagle, Lee Morrison, John Pursell of Maxwell and Robert Taylor of Ames were the casket bearers.

C. Vern Evans, son of the late C. C. and Alberta J. Evans, was born on the Evans homestead southeast of Collins, Oct. 29, 1891, and departed this life at the County Home hospital, Saturday morning July 31, 1948, at the age of 56 years, nine months, and two days.

The family moved to Collins when he was quite young and spent his entire life in the home they built at that time.

In infancy he suffered a physical disability which limited his activities somewhat but did not limit his interest in the community, his work or his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the father dying many years ago, the mother more recently.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. Clinton Evans, one nephew, two nieces, many more distant relatives and a host of friends.

Last fall he became ill and was taken to Mary Greeley hospital later going to University hosptal, Iowa City. His condition was such that he could not stay in his home alone so spent the remaining months of his life in the County Home hospital.

He was well known and respected in this community, made friends easily and prized those friendships.

He will be truly mourned by those who knew him best.
