Funeral Services For Ernest Morris Held Here Sunday

McCallsburg, May 14--The funeral of Ernest Morris, who passed away May 8 at the Veterans hospital at Rockford, Ill., was held Sunday afternoon at the Morfoot funeral home in Nevada, with D. G. Knowlton of Webster City in charge.

The music was furnished by Mrs. W. C. Rasmussen and Mrs. W. H. Reid who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer" with Miss Cleo Tett at the piano. The pallbearers were Romaine Halsted, James Hall, J. R. Morris, Ralph Butler, Orville Schwartz and Martin Bergland, while the flowers were cared for by Mrs. J. R. Morris and Mrs. Halsted.

Burial was made in the Warren township cemetery.

There were a number of relatives and friends from out of town in attendance.

Obituary

Ernest Morris, son of Orin and Florence York Morris, was born April 9, 1890 at Robinson, Ill., where he grew to manhood on a farm. After completing high school at Tuscola, Ill., he traveled considerably, finally locating in Jefferson, Ia. He left there for military training at Ames preparatory to his enlistment in the service of his country. He saw active front-line service overseas and returned to civil life after leaving the hospital in France in the year following the signing of the armistice. He returned to Jefferson and worked with the F. E. Marsh Construction company whose interests took him to Rockford, Ill., where he was married and made his home since with the exception of four years when he and his family live in Central, Ia.

He passed away may 8, 1941, at the Veterans' hospital at Hines, Ill. after years of ill health, and the past 2 months of intense suffering.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife* and three children, Mark, Martha and Helen of McCallsburg, Ia., his aged father of Anapolis, Ill. and a brother, Vernon of Azusa, Cal., besides various other relatives and friends.

He was buried at McCallsburg, Ia. where his family will make their home.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The wife of Ernest Morris was Grace B. Hammond whom he married on 18 June 1923 in Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois.
