"OBITUARY. - ROY DAVIS. - Roy Davis, son of David and Elizabeth Davis, was born at Maxwell, Iowa, June 15, 1891 and departed this life at the Story County Hospital, in Nevada, November 26, 1957, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 11 days. Roy was united in marriage to Mable Beach on February 11, 1914, and to this union was born one daughter, Jean. After the death of Mrs. Davis in 1933, Roy was united in marriage to Mae Kirkland on November 23, 1934, at Maxwell, Iowa. Mr. Davis lived his entire life in and near Maxwell. He joined the Presbyterian Church here on October 13, 1916. He was a man who loved his home and enjoyed his family. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Mae, and one daughter, Jean of Camas, Washington; three step-sons, Virgil, Haze and Harold Kirkland all of Portland, Oregon. He is survived also by 7 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Whitney of Cambridge and Mrs. Coride Baker of Nevada and many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Maxwell Presbyterian Church on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30 at 2 p. m., with Reverends LeRoy Sargent and Stanley Farmer in charge. Mrs. Alice Gooden and James Beal sang two duets "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" and "Shadows" with Mrs. Madeline Summitt at the organ. The beautiful floral tributes were arranged and cared for by Mrs. Elizabeth Davis and Mrs. Vera Viers. Casket Bearers were Harry Gibson, Rollie Pearson, Willis Evans, Flavius Pritchard, V. O. Ray and E. L. Wood. Burial was in the Maxwell Cemetery. Relatives in attendance from out of town were Harold and Haze Kirkland of Portland, Oregon, Jean Davis of Camas, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Whitney of Fort Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Whitney of Iowa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Brooks and Miss Beulah Baker, all of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Freeland of Huxley; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Birkestrand of Slater; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Cronk of Cambridge; Mrs. Gwen Sorenson of Kelley; Mrs. Donald Elder of Elkhart; David Evans of Des Moines; Mrs. Elnore Anderson of Ames and Mrs. Helen Hitzman of Boone."
